STONE PINE SYRUP
1 l water
3 young stone pine cones
[purple and juicy]
750 g sugar
1 lemon
_ cut cones into thin slices or small pieces
_ heat water with sugar and cones and boil for five minutes
_ fill into a large, sealable glass jar and add lemons in slices
_ mix well and seal airtight
_ leave to stand for 1-2 days in a dark but warm place
[stir or shake well from time to time]
_ pour syrup through a fine sieve or cloth [discard cones and lemons]
_ fill into sterile bottles and close them well
_ preserve bottles in a steamer or boiling water for 20 minutes
[this step is important - otherwise the syrup will go bad quickly]
